After the tragic death of Minutemen singer D. Boon, Minutemen bassist Mike Watt and drummer George Hurley along with Ohio State University student Ed Crawford, formed fIREHOSE. Continuing in the tradition of the Minutemen, fIREHOSE wrote breathtaking songs with inspiring lyrics. Their songs were more structured and traditional than the Minutemen's however.

Although they achieved wider notoriety than did the Minutemen (eventually recording for a major label), fIREHOSE called it quits in early 1994.
