Hüsker Dü 01 or 05 Sep 1981 7th St. Entry Minneapoils, MN Twin/Tone multi-band sessions Here's another nice DVD for you wonderful Dimers. I have no lineage information for this one either, but I wouldn't let that stop you from grabbing this one. I do not believe that this DVD is taken from the same source tape mentioned in the notes as this does not have the tracking problems mentioned. While this is certainly not taken from a 1st gen master, it is of superior quality to the tape mentioned in the notes as well. I'm watching it now and (I hate rating this stuff) I would rate it at a B+, or better. There is some arty visual effects employed by the videographer at times through-out the performance, but I find that it actually adds to the experience. Very "Eighties" looking. God, they look young in this! The quality of the video in this one is a *tick* better than the Replacements DVD from the same sessions that I seeded earlier this week. I copied the following notes from: http://www.thirdav.com/hd_discog/14_live_video.html Notes: Artist: Hüsker Dü Format: Pro-shot tape Medium: VHS cassette Date Recorded: 01 or 05 Sep 1981 Location: 7th st Entry, MN Recording Quality: B+/C (serious tracking problems during "Free Land," "Wheels" and half of "Call On Me" at beginning of the second set.) Time: 60 min Multi-camera concert video shot with eventual public release apparently in mind. Part of five successive nights of shooting. Other bands (e.g., Replacements) were videotaped during these sessions as well. The tapes are rumored to reside in the Twin/Tone vaults. Bob Mould comments: "The recordings from 1981 were to be released as a multi-lp/video package tentatively entitled 'Soundcheck.' Twin/Tone probably has the tapes somewhere; I would suspect it's their final 'ace-in-the-hole', for when they next run out of money, or need another M&D deal. Everyone from that period (Mats, Loud Fast Rules, Hüsker, etc.) were part of it, so it'll be a big item at some point." The provenance of this particular copy is a mystery. Long uncirculated, this recording leaked out in the early 90s and is now fairly common.
