Schoeps microphones (unknown model) > DAT deck (unknown model) > patched to Sony D-7 DAT DAT Master > Panasonic SV-3800 > digital coaxial > Audigy 2 ZS Platinum > Soundforge* > 16 bit 44.1 wav > CD Wave (tracking) > Flac Frontend (level 7, align sector boundaries) > flac *Soundforge was used to capture, boost levels (150%), two patches, and set fades. This 9 year old DAT was extracted 5 times before I could get an acceptable extraction. Two skips in the best extraction were patched with identical pieces from a prior extraction, but one small blip in the loud portion of Kingpin could not be completely fixed (you might not even hear it). The Show: Three of us tapers brought our rigs to this show, but the venue would only allow one rig--so we chose the Schoeps guy. Thanks a ton to the guy who ran the rig, and gave out two patches. This is the infamous "deli tray" Wilco show. If you're a Wilco collector, you probably have a dry soundboard recording of this show, and the DVD of the HBO partial broadcast authored by the excellent JHamm. Of all the Wilco shows I attended, this is the best one. The band's performance is energetic, fun, tight and inspired. This recording captures that energy in a way that the soundboard recording does not. I received a DAT of that soundboard years ago from my friend Mark Linton, and he agreed that my audience master was a better listen. Enjoy!
